About NRCPA: CPD for you, by you. It is your discussion group! We discuss what is important to you.

NRCPA is the North of the River CPA Discussion Group, established in 1977 by 3 Principals in Practice whom wanted / needed a more current, in-depth interactive forum, and a forum that operated at a higher more senior level, and also dealt with non-technical matters such as Practice, Software, and ATO issues. A Charter was prepared. Part of the reason the Group is still operating after 47 years is that the Group is very interactive, it is not a lecture. The Group also provides Members with a professional network, including accounting professionals, legal and other specialists. Originally NRCPA was an In-Person only format. With the arrival of COVID, we pivoted to providing ZOOM meetings. As COVID restrictions relaxed, we maintained ZOOM whilst reactivating In Person attendance. Now NRCPA is firmly based on a hybrid format, with Members able to attend by ZOOM or In Person – or a mixture of both as they wish. It is beneficial for Members to mix their attendances between both formats. There is nothing like the personal interaction with your peers, but sometimes you can’t make it In-Person, so join in by ZOOM so then you don’t miss out. We have members ZOOM in whilst on holidays!

CPD: Why NRCPA?

All Members are active in providing questions for discussion, issues, and other relevant matters. Members are scheduled to prepare a Summary of the Discussion Questions. It is a Group designed and operated for the Members. Whilst I act as a Convenor, preparing the Agendas, Minutes, and organising Guest Speakers, the Group is very Member focused. Members provide the Questions and discussion points. This then ensures that the meetings are very very relevant to the Members. It deals with the very latest up-to-date issues and matters relevant in your practice today! NOW!!

Monthly CPD Meetings

Comprehensive monthly meetings, held every 2nd Monday monthly. Meetings are presented in a hybrid format: In Person and by ZOOM. Munro Doig kindly host us in their CBD office. Meetings commence sharp at 5:30 for 2 hours. Members are rostered to provide questions to be discussed, which the Convenor uses to prepare the Agenda. Post meeting, Minutes are prepared and emailed out. Meetings are very interactive, they are not a lecture, but real 2 way discussions. With our new AV equipment, the ZOOM quality is excellent, making it a perfect, feasible, option for the regions. Regional Members are welcome to join in In Person whenever convenient.

Senior Tax Manager, Fremantle

I highly recommend the NRCPA and its monthly two hour technical meetings. Questions are put by the members and discussed after researching of same.

A great way to answer those curly queries and in a great and supportive atmosphere.

I give it a 5* rating.

Kim W

Partner, Liquidator

I had the pleasure of attending one of NRCPA’s meetings and I can’t think of anything that could’ve been done better. The people were great, very interactive, and extremely informative. For an accountant, experienced or not, it would be very beneficial as all discussion points are relevant to the industry. Would definitely recommend attending.

Mihir N

BDO

As a young professional, I have always been passionate about the accounting industry and aim to become a trusted advisor to my clients. However, keeping up with tax laws, especially as they change every year, has been a challenge.

Joining the CPA Discussion Group has been an incredible opportunity to connect with senior accountants, lawyers, and other professionals who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.

Their advice has helped me understand things I did not know before and given me more confidence to handle the challenges of this evolving industry. Public accounting is undoubtedly demanding, with laws and regulations constantly changing, but being part of this group has provided the tools and support I need to stay ahead and work towards achieving my professional goals.

I am grateful to be part of such a helpful and inspiring community over the past year, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow.

Article extract

CPA WA Division fortnightly update, 12th November

I would highly recommend the NRCPA Discussion Group to any accountant in Practice.

As a founding member in 1977, our primary objective has not changed throughout the 48 year period to 2025.

The Group was established by accountants in Practice, for accountants in Practice.

Our primary focus is to support  those in Practice.

Agendas are set by members, around areas that our members raise which is  the complete spectrum of Practice life.

These aspects can be technical; Tax, Corporate, Legal, Financial, SMSF or practical, but equally important aspects such as;  HR, IT, AI, Practice Management, in fact any topic that impacts those at the coal face.

Without a shadow of doubt, our members over the years, by mutual contributions have been supporting one another.

The monthly meetings (2nd Monday of each month) together with our annual seminar (June each year) and guest presenters are an invaluable resource.

Meetings since Covid are conducted on a flexible hybrid platform, members can attend in person, or by Zoom.

I would urge all Practitioners to explore joining  the Group and benefit from sharing with others  the collective knowledge and experiences of your peers.
